Roost Books + Neighborhood Studio dinner

The Roost Books family gathered in Brooklyn to celebrate the launch of Neighborhood Studio with a community dinner benefiting the National Partnership for Women and Families

Earlier this spring, Hetty McKinnon, author of Neighborhood, had a wonderful idea. She wondered if Roost Books team members and authors based in New York could gather for a community dinner with all proceeds going to charity.

That initial idea sparked a very special gathering in May when Roost Books publisher Sara Bercholz, editors Jennifer Urban-Brown and Juree Sondker, publicist Jess Townsend, and senior marketing manager Claire Kelley traveled to New York to for a meeting at our distributor Penguin Random House.

Hetty McKinnon and Jodi Moreno (pictured above), are the duo behind Neighborhood Studio, a new community kitchen space in Boreum Hill, Brooklyn where they plan to host food craft workshops, pop up lunches, cookbook clubs, family style dinners, food talks, classes and more.

Hetty's book Neighborhood: Hearty Salads and Plant-Based Recipes from Home and Abroad was published by Roost Books in July, and Jodi Moreno is the author of the forthcoming April 2018 Roost Books title More With Less: Whole Food Cooking Made Irresistibly Simple.

A celebration of our Roost Books authors, community, and delicious food.

Hetty and Jodi hosted the community dinner in their new Neighborhood Studio space, and gave attendees a tour of their new natural light-filled loft space that had just been renovated with a brand new kitchen for recipe testing and food styling.

Roost Books authors Amy Chaplin (At Home in the Whole Food Kitchen), Sarah Owens (Sourdough and Toast & Jam), Diana Yen (A Simple Feast) also made wonderful dishes, bread, and desserts (see menu above).

And Feeding a Family author Sarah Waldman and photographer Elizabeth Cecil were also able to join the dinner, along with friends and collaborators.

Diana Yen's Instagram famous pet @cleo_thebunny made an appearance!

Wine was generously provided by Adrienne at bespoke sommelier service Summit Street, and the gorgeous flower arrangements were designed by Kelsey Ter Meer at Heart and Soil Flowers.

Roost Books publisher Sara Bercholz expressed her gratitude to all the authors who made the delicious food for the evening and remarked what a dream it was for the Roost Books family to gather with community in such a beautiful way.
